Variation of bound coagulase of Staphylococcus aureus.

چکیده
Duthie (1954) reported that bound coagulase (clumping factor) of staphylococei is released from the surface of autolysing cells into the medium of old broth cultures. Rosenblum and Jackson (1957) noticed occasional alteration of bound coagulase and pigment production after storage of staphylococci for months to years. Decrease in bound coagulase activity of freshly isolated hospital strains of Staphylococcus aureus after storage under a variety of conditions, and failure of some of the stored organisms to regain their activity on subsequent cultivation are demonstrated in the present report.

Inoculum size and lot-to-lot variation as significant variables in the tube coagulase test for Staphylococcus aureus.
For a positive coagulase test with certain isolates of Staphylococcus aureus, inoculation of 0.5 ml of coagulase plasma with at least two colonies and 24 h of incubation at 35 to 37 degrees C may be required. S. aureus does not multiply in coagulase plasma. There is also lot-to-lot variation in the sensitivity of coagulase plasma. On isolates from critical specimens, a negative coagulase test o...
متن کاملGenetic evidence that bound coagulase of Staphylococcus aureus is not clumping factor.
Staphylococcus aureus Newman cells carry a surface receptor for fibrinogen called clumping factor. The bacteria also express coagulase, an extracellular protein that binds to prothrombin to form a complex with thrombinlike activity which coverts fibrinogen to fibrin. We have confirmed a recent report (M. K. Bodén and J.-I. Flock, Infect. Immun. 57:2358-2363, 1989) that coagulase can bind to fib...
متن کاملBacterial Mastitis in Lactating Women Attending Mirzakochackkhan Hospital during 2003-2004 and the Sensitivity Pattern of the Involved Bacteria
Introduction: Mastitis is an inflammatory condition of the breast and since it is usually associated with lactation , it is usually called lactational mastitis. Two major causes of mastitis are milk stasis and infection. The aim of this study was to evaluate bacterial mastitis in lactating women and to determine the sensitivity pattern of the involved bacteria. Method: A total of 203 milk sampl...
متن کاملInhibition of fibrinogen reaction by polysaccharide of encapsulated Staphylococcus aureus.
Encapsulated and nonencapsulated strains of Staphylococcus aureus which lack coagulase or clumping factor (bound coagulase), or both, were examined for the antigen associated with the fibrinogen-cell clumping reaction. Extracts of the cells were tested for the ability to react with fibrinogen or to inhibit fibrinogen precipitation. Antisera prepared against encapsulated (coagulase-positive, clu...
متن کاملDetection of Classic Enterotoxin Genes and Coagulase Gene Typing of Staphylococcus Aureus Isolated from Raw Cow Milk in Isfahan
Background and Aims: Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is considered as one of the most dangerous pathogenic bacteria due to the production of extracellular toxins. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of S. aureus and to characterize the recovered strains for their enterotoxin-producing genes in raw cow milk. Materials and Methods: During 9 months duration of the s...
